Senior Track Designer

Job Description

Our client is currently looking for a Senior Track Designer to join a growing Rail and Transit team working out of the GTA. You will be involved in some of the largest Transit infrastructure projects in the country.

Responsibilities:

- Provide engineering, technical, and design support to the Track Design Section
- Designing track and railway infrastructures in accordance with the quality objectives and regulations, laws and standards (ex. Metrolinx, CN, CP and AREMA);
- Provide technical support during construction
- Design of track alignments and special track work, grading and drainage, utility protection and relocations, roads and parking lots
- Construction staging design
- Undertake concept, preliminary, and detailed designs
- Support studies and environmental assessments
- Prepare drawings and quantity take-offs
- Perform quality control and quality assurance on other related projects
- Evaluate technical alternatives, resolve technical issues and interface with other disciplines
- Participate in the planning stages, design and construction of the project
- Participate in the activities of cost estimates
- Perform detailed technical analysis, interpret data, make summaries and help draft reports
- Visit construction sites to ensure the quality of the work and to carry out inspections as required
- Be able to plan, organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians

Requirements:

- 10 years of professional experience in design or construction of railway infrastructure is a must
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of an employee-owned culture is a must
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Microstation and Bentley InRoads is considered an asset
- Experience in Transit or Rail design (freight, LRT, subway, passenger rail, or streetcar)
- Experience designing track or civil infrastructure
- Technical experience in the planning and design of urban infrastructure
- Experience with CN, CP, VIA, TTC, Metrolinx or similar
- Working knowledge of Transport Canada Guidelines and Canadian Railway Operating Rules
- Professional and experienced in relations with customers
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team on railway projects
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to mentor and train others
