HSSE Consultant, The Hague, Netherlands

Currently seeking an experienced, driven and self-starting HSSE Consultant to coordinate and apply our and the clients’ HSSE policies and procedures.

Via supervision and administration of the HSSE programmes within The Netherlands your goal is to embed Safety for Life principles within the culture of our clients and contractors. In addition to that you will work side by side with the Lead HSSE Manager to increase the overall safety culture within the Benefrux area.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Being accountable to achieve high levels of compliance on project sites by providing clarification regarding intent and practical examples of implementation.

  • Increasing awareness and knowledge of Safety for Life and the client safety programme.

  • Perform project site inspections to raise awareness and sensitivity among project staff to hazardous conditions and unsafe practices or behaviours.

  • Support contractor use of potential incident and near-miss reporting.

  • Assist with Permit To Work process and ensure compliance to permitting procedures.

  • Ensure that safety in design is correctly implemented during project preparation

  • Lead incident and accident investigation process. By the collection of facts, evidence, photographs, witness statements, and other information useful to the Root Cause Analysis process.

  • Develop and deliver orientation and HSSE training for employees on managed projects together with other team members.

  • Help monitor contractor training programs for compliance with regulatory, and client requirements via audits.

  • Assist Project Managers and Site Superintendents in administering the Site Specific HSSE Plan and developing Site Specific Risk Assessments.

  • Develop, evaluate and maintain emergency plans, contingency plans, and emergency call trees for HSSE employees and contractors.

  • Contribute to aspects of the contractor accreditation program and pre-construction activities related to HSSE

  • Accompany regulatory compliance officers and third party auditors as required.

  • Manage and monitor progress with a variety of internal plans: HSSE Plan, HSSE Performance, Training for clients and contractors.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Safety, MVK degree is a priority, HVK is a plus

  • At least 3 years experience within construction and industrial safety or equivalent

  • Knowledge of construction methods and practices; local and regional province, and local safety and environmental law and regulation

  • Expert in recognition of unsafe conditions, practices, or behaviours and to take appropriate corrective action measures

  • Experience in working in a cross-country team

  • Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to clearly express thoughts both verbally and in writing. Proficient in use of personal computer including basic office software applications

  • Taking initiative and proposing innovations to the lead HSSE Manager regarding safety compliance on project sites

  • Knowledge of contractor and stakeholder management

  • Excellent Dutch and English language skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • German or French language skills is an added value
