About the Role
This Mechanical Engineer role will support the delivery, operation and maintenance of mechanical assets and facilities within a live dockyard environment. Working closely with the customer and multidisciplinary engineering teams, the successful candidate will provide technical support across both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
The role will involve supporting mechanical modifications, redesigns and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring projects are delivered in line with operational, safety and compliance requirements. The position will also contribute across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through to installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance support.

The key responsibilities for this Mechanical Engineer role are:
- Engage directly with customers to understand project and operational requirements
- Provide mechanical engineering support across ongoing projects and asset activities
- Attend Authorisation Group meetings where required
- Review maintenance regimes and ongoing maintenance activities
- Specify replacement equipment and components
- Support the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications
- Scope and develop modifications to existing assets and facilities
- Support full lifecycle mechanical project delivery from design through to implementation
- Maintain configuration control of technical drawings and documentation
- Assess and approve technical documentation prior to customer submission
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders
- Support installation, commissioning and testing activities
- Provide technical input into project documentation, risk assessments and progress reporting
Experience required for this Mechanical Engineer role are:
- Foundation degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant mechanical engineering experience within a highly regulated industry
- Knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems
- Experience producing and interpreting mechanical engineering drawings
- Experience producing and interpreting hand calculations
- Experience supporting mechanical maintenance activities
- Experience within the design process and producing technical substantiation for systems and components
- Ability to work within changing project and operational environments
- Sole UK National eligible for Security Clearance
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Mechanical Engineer role are:
- Experience within nuclear or other safety-critical environments
- Experience supporting asset lifecycle projects
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems associated with cranes and hauling equipment
- Knowledge of mechanical building services systems
- Experience working with compressed air, water systems and thermal or fluid systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
