Highway Design Engineer

Our client is currently looking for a Highway Design Engineer to join their growing Transportation Design Practice working out of their GTA office. This position will provide you with the opportunities for advancement and career growth. Working with a dynamic, talented team in a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities:

- Preparing technical analysis and design; including cost estimating, quantity calculations, specifications, technical reports, engineering documents and drawings for Highway / Geometric Design related engineering projects.
- Drafting and reviewing detailed design drawings and presentation materials of highways, urban roads, interchanges and intersections, as part of the team.
- Preparing and running contract specifications and documentation.
- Collaborating with all disciplines team members, subconsultants, clients, and agencies.
- Leading and providing supervision, guidance, and mentorship for project teams and Junior staff.
- Leading and participating in proposals, business development opportunities, preparing quantity takeoffs, and construction cost estimates.
- Assisting with and preparing contract specifications.
- Reviewing construction shop drawings and answering RFIs.
- Delivering production work in accordance with company technical and operating procedures.
- Providing support with respect to a range of activities including both technical and non-technical tasks related to engineering design and project delivery / construction as well as project coordination / management, marketing, and business development.


Requirements:

- Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Registered, or approaching registration, as a Professional Engineer with PEO.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Ontario, with all aspects of highway / freeway / geometric design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, quantity calculation, contract documents, constructability).
- Demonstrated field construction site inspection, investigation, and contract administration experience, is an asset.
- Practical knowledge of the MTO, TAC design manuals, procedures, and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work with various software packages (i.e. Microstation / InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD / Civil 3D, Revit, Microsoft Office suite of products).
- Demonstrated experience with technical writing, minute preparation, and other relevant project engineering documents.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with the ability to effectively prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
- Working knowledge of traffic and transportation engineering principles and other road design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measure, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical thinking & problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to lead CAD production and direct/coordinate CAD staff with respect to applicable CAD standards.
