About the Role

Are you commercially minded, analytical and confident interpreting technical information?

Whether you are an experienced estimator, a quantity surveyor looking to influence projects at an earlier stage, a groundworks or civil engineering professional seeking a move into commercial roles, a buyer with strong cost knowledge, or someone with transferable technical experience, this could be an excellent next step.

We are looking for an Estimator to support future housing and development projects by producing accurate cost plans and supporting land bid decisions. This is an opportunity to make a real impact from the earliest stages of a project while developing your career within a large, stable and supportive organisation.

  • Completing take-offs for groundworks, externals and infrastructure

  • Building plot schedules and maintaining cost databases

  • Sourcing quotations and preparing tender information

  • Working closely with Land, Technical, Commercial and Pre-Construction teams

You will also spend time visiting greenfield and brownfield sites, and occasionally live developments, to understand site constraints first-hand. Working alongside Land, Technical and Planning colleagues, you will:

  • Assess the maximum cost price of schemes based on early-stage layouts and sketches

  • Ensure land opportunities are properly costed

  • Support value engineering to deliver the best value at concept stage

What We're Looking For

This role could suit someone already working as an Estimator, Assistant Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Buyer, Procurement Specialist, Site Engineer, Groundworks Engineer, Civil Engineer or Commercial Administrator who is looking to move into a more commercially focused position.

You may also be suitable if you have experience within:

  • Groundworks, civils or infrastructure projects

  • Construction procurement or materials buying

  • Cost planning, pricing or tendering

  • Utilities, highways or site preparation works

  • Technical roles within the armed forces or other operational environments where you have developed strong planning, costing or analytical skills

To be successful, you will need:

  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure

  • Confidence interpreting drawings, layouts, site information and technical data

  • Good IT skills, particularly in Excel and cost-planning systems

  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with internal teams, consultants and subcontractors

  • A proactive and commercially minded approach

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region

Experience preparing take-offs, reviewing site constraints, obtaining quotations or supporting tender submissions would be advantageous, but full training can be provided for the right candidate.

Please note: A basic DBS check will be required.
